2008 - Brick Salvage and Site Preparation
Once again we had a
digger on site to help us retrieve the bricks from the cellar of the old house.
Cedric, the digger driver,
piled the earth and bricks into two huge mounds...
.....which we then spent
many long, tiring days raking through and sorting.....
......often working until the sun had set over Bredon Hill.....
Steadily, though, the
piles of earth shrank in size....
....until finally they
were gone!
Our efforts were rewarded
with a surprising number of salvaged bricks - some are good enough to use
in the new house, while others will be used for the garden paths.
We also have a big pile
of broken bricks and other rubble, which will be crushed and used for hardcore.
Well no major excavations just yet, but soon we hope to begin digging the
foundations for the basement,
as finally we move on into the construction phase of the project.
